Event: Global Soil Week: Soils for Life [viewed]

The First Global Soil Week will provide a platform to initiate follow-up actions on land and soil-related decisions made at the UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20) and will take place in the framework of the FAO's Global Soil Partnership. This event will provide a forum of interactive exchange and dialogue among stakeholders from science, government, business and civil society. The event is organized through a collaboration between the Institute for Advanced Sustainability Studies' (IASS') Global Soil Forum and the European Commission (EC), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the German Federal Environmental Agency (UBA), the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).

Event: Second Council Meeting of the Great Apes Survival Partnership (GRASP) [viewed]

The Second Council meeting of the Great Apes Survival Partnership (GRASP) will craft a long-term strategy that meets the demands of conserving great apes and their habitat in a rapidly changing world. The GRASP Council will also consider proposals suggested by the recent GRASP Strategic Review designed to make the partnership more effective, and consider reaching out to areas of government, industry, science, and research that could increase the scope and scale of GRASP's work.

UNCCD Ad Hoc Group on Impact Indicator Refinement Discusses Scope of Work [viewed]

Event: International Year of Water Cooperation [viewed]

The UN International Year of Water Cooperation will be observed in 2013. The campaign will work to advance comprehension of the challenges and benefits of water cooperation, and promote it worldwide. UN-Water has called upon the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to lead the International Year. The 2013 World Water Day, marked on 22 March, also will be dedicated to water cooperation.

Event: Nairobi Convention Science for Policy Workshop [viewed]

This workshop is being held prior to COP 7 of the Nairobi Convention to provide an opportunity for stakeholders to highlight emerging issues within the Nairobi Convention, and provide a space for scientific evidence to be presented to policy makers for consideration for new policies.

Event: Seventh Conference of the Parties to the Nairobi Convention [viewed]

The Seventh Conference of the Parties (COP 7) to the Nairobi Convention is being convened under the theme "Partnering for a Healthy Western Indian Ocean." It is expected that COP 7 will foster collaboration between international, regional and national organizations as well as secure partnerships between key regional players and the Contracting Parties of the Nairobi Convention in the implementation of the Nairobi Convention Work Programme 2013-2016. COP 7 is preceded by the Science for Policy Workshop (10-11 December) and the Policy Makers and Experts Meeting (12 December) to review decisions to be taken at the COP. The Nairobi Convention area includes: Comoros, France, Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, Somalia, Tanzania and South Africa.

Event: Meeting of Nairobi Convention National Focal Points [viewed]

In partnership with the Government of Mozambique, the Nairobi Convention is organizing this meeting to discuss the implementation of the Nairobi Convention's Work Programme and preparations for the Seventh Conference of Parties (COP7) to the Nairobi Convention, scheduled to be held in December 2012. High-level Panel on Resources for Strategic Plan Conducts Online Consultation [viewed]

CBD2 August 2012: The High-level Panel on Global Assessment of Resources for Implementing the Strategic Plan (HLP-GAR), established under the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and sponsored by the UK and India, held an online consultation on 2 August 2012. The consultation aims to start the Panel's work in a transparent manner, and provide CBD Parties with the opportunity to exchange views on the subject.
