Report of the 30th Session of the International Sava River Basin Commission Released [viewed]

8 November 2012: The International Sava River Basin Commission (ISRBC) has published the report of its 30th session. At the meeting, ISRBC noted the proposed Sava River Basin Management (RBM) Plan, and discussed realization of the Work Plan for 2012, including on flood prevention, RBM, navigation, hydrological and meteorological issues, and tourism development, among other issues.

ITTC Approves New Strategic Plan for ITTO, US$9 Million in Funding [viewed]

10 November 2012: The International Tropical Timber Council (ITTC) convened its 48th session from 5-10 November 2012, in Yokohama, Japan. The Council announced funding of US$9 million for sustainable forest management and to support trade of sustainably harvested tropical forest resources.

UNWTO Convenes Pan-African Conference on Sustainable Development [viewed]

19 October 2012: The UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), together with the Government of Tanzania, convened the First Pan-African Conference on Sustainable Tourism in African National Parks, from 15-18 October, in Arusha, Tanzania. Attended by tourism ministers, representatives of the private sector, and conservation officials, the Conference adopted the Arusha Declaration.

On climate change-related issues, the meeting adopted decisions on REDD+ and geo-engineering, and addressed strengthening knowledge on linkages between biodiversity and climate change.

CBD COP 11 Adopts Interim Target and Roadmap for Resource Mobilization [viewed]

COP 11 President Jayanthi Natarajan, Minister of Environment and Forests, India, gavelled the meeting to a close at 3:02 am.22 October 2012: Held from 8-19 October 2012, in Hyderabad, India, the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) adopted 33 decisions on a range of strategic, substantive, administrative, financial and budgetary issues. Delegates agreed to set an interim target of doubling biodiversity-related international financial resource flows to developing countries by 2015, and at least maintaining this level until 2020. This is coupled with targets on improving baseline information, as well as a preliminary reporting framework for monitoring resource mobilization.
