WIPO IGC 23 Advances on Text on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources [viewed]

11 February 2013: Convened from 4-8 February 2013, in Geneva, Switzerland, the Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore (IGC) of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) further streamlined the draft text of an international legal instrument on intellectual property and genetic resources, which will be submitted to the WIPO General Assembly, to be held from 23 September - 2 October 2013. However, several brackets remain indicating delegates' divergent opinions on key issues under negotiation.

UNECE Water Convention Becomes Global [viewed]

UNECE6 February 2013: An amendment to the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention) entered into force on 6 February 2013, after receiving the necessary number of ratifications, making the Convention open to accession by all UN member States.

Working Group on Forest Genetic Resources Prepares Recommendations [viewed]

FAO25 January 2013: The Second Session of the Intergovernmental Technical Working Group on Forest Genetic Resources brought together 53 member and observer countries at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO). The Working Group considered the preparation and key findings of the publication The State of the World's Forest Genetic Resources, as well as priority areas for action and follow up.

ICRAF East Africa Workshop Identifies Capacity Building Needs [viewed]

23 January 2013: The World Agroforestry Centre (ICRAF) held a consultative workshop in East Africa in order to solicit feedback on its draft capacity development strategy. The workshop was attended by experts, policy-makers and practitioners from Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Uganda who reviewed the draft strategy and identified their own priorities for capacity development.
