Pacific Countries Agree on EPA Negotiations with EU [viewed]

PIFS12 April 2014: The Pacific countries from the African, Caribbean and Pacific Group of States (ACP) have requested an Economic Participation Agreement (EPA) negotiation with the EU by the end of April 2014, following a discussion of outstanding issues among the Pacific ACP countries. Officials emphasized that the EPA provisions should promote the sustainable development of the region's fisheries, while ensuring that Pacific peoples benefit from fisheries trade.

Leaders also adopted a declaration on migration and mobility, and a road map to frame EU-Africa relations in 2014-2017. The EU committed to provide more than €28 billion to Africa through bilateral cooperation.

EC Supporting Global Soil Partnership Activities [viewed]

Global Soil Partnership (GSP)March 2013: The European Commission (EC) will provide €1 million to the Global Soil Partnership (GSP) for three activities during 2014-2015. The EC financing will support the: work of the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils, including its 2014 working session; development of detailed, regional-level Implementation Plans for each GSP Pillar; and capacity building on digital soil mapping in Africa.
