Canada and US Amend Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement [viewed]

7 September 2012: Lisa Jackson, Administrator, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and Peter Kent, Minister of Environment, Canada, have signed an amendment to the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, originally signed in 1972. The amendments strengthen US and Canadian cooperative action to address water quality threats and prevent harm.

APEC Economic Leaders Agree on Trade in Environmental Goods [viewed]

9 September 2012: Through the adoption of the 2012 Leaders' Declaration, also known as the Vladivostok Declaration, member countries in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) have agreed to significantly reduce tariffs and duties on green technologies. The Declaration, titled “Integrate to grow, innovate to prosper,” was adopted at the completion of the 20th APEC Economic Leaders' meeting, held in Vladivostok, Russia, from 8-9 September 2012.

43rd Pacific Islands Forum Develops Leaders Communique [viewed]

PIFS30 August 2012: The 43rd Pacific Islands Forum convened in Rarotonga, the Cook Islands, from 28-30 August 2012, under the theme of “Large Oceans Island States – the Pacific Challenge.” Issues discussed at the meeting included the outcomes of the recent UN Conference on Sustainable Development (UNCSD, or Rio+20), the Oceanscape initiative, climate change, and radioactive contaminants in the Marshall Islands.
