Governments Air Priorities for 2030 Agenda, Sustainable Development [viewed]

unga7020 October 2015: The UN General Assembly's (UNGA) Second Committee (Economic and Financial) held its discussion of sustainable development (agenda item 20) and several sub-items, including on climate change, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and small island developing States (SIDS). UN Assistant Secretary-General, Lenni Montiel, UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), who introduced several reports of the UN Secretary-General, said sustainable development is not confined to one item on the Committee's agenda; instead, the Committee should consider all issues before it through the lens of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Event: CBD Business and Biodiversity Forum 2015 [viewed]

The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) Business & Biodiversity Forum 2015 will convene under the theme, 'Practices, Solutions and the Way Forward'. The forum is aimed at broadening the knowledge of the central role corporations play in protecting biodiversity and deepening companies' understanding of business opportunities connected to biodiversity and the risks associated with biodiversity loss. The event will gather biodiversity specialists working for corporations from around the world to exchange knowledge of companies' latest practices on business and biodiversity. The forum will present various examples of business solutions from the agriculture, forestry, mining and oil industries; discuss financing mechanisms for biodiversity; and address the role of biodiversity in supply chain management.

CBD Secretariat Releases Workshop Report on Detection and Identification of LMOs [viewed]

UNEP-WCMC Develops Guidance on Experimental Biodiversity Accounting [viewed]

Heads of Eight IOs Commit to "Integrated Solutions" [viewed]

joint_action_achieve_sdg26 September 2015: Eight international organizations committed to coordinated action to achieve the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, addressing a high-level side event on the sidelines of the UN Sustainable Development Summit. The high-level event resulted in a joint call for action, in which the heads of the eight organizations say they are ready to step up collective efforts to support Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) implementation, and commit themselves to engaging in multi-stakeholder partnership approaches and working across regions and on multiple levels, from local to global.

Nagoya Protocol on ABS Reaches 66 Ratifications [viewed]

CBD28 September 2015: Eleven countries have ratified the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) since its entry into force on 12 October 2014. The Protocol currently counts 66 ratifications.
