Seven Biodiversity-related Conventions Discuss Strengthening Implementation, Synergies [viewed]

seven-biodiversity-related-conventions18 February 2016: Representatives of the Parties to seven biodiversity-related conventions held a workshop to explore ways to strengthen synergies and improve efficiency among the conventions, with a view to enhancing their implementation at all levels. The options and elements for a possible roadmap elaborated during the workshop will be submitted to the first meeting of the Subsidiary Body on Implementation (SBI) of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), to be held in May 2016.

Event: Eighth Trondheim Conference on Biodiversity [viewed]

The eighth Trondheim Conference on Biodiversity will focus on 'Food systems for a sustainable future: interlinkages between biodiversity and agriculture,' with a view to identifying approaches for the achievement of mutually beneficial and sustainable outcomes, in the context of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It will be hosted by the Government of Norway in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the World Bank.

Policy Update #18: Biodiversity and Land in the SDGs: A Forward-looking Review [viewed]

CBD Secretariat Releases Report of Working Group on LMO Risk Assessment [viewed]

CBDFebruary 2016: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has released the report of the Ad hoc Technical Expert Group (AHTEG) on Risk Assessment and Risk Management of Living Modified Organisms (LMOs). The AHTEG: revised the Guidance on Risk Assessment of LMOs based on comments received; considered whether guidance on additional issues could be incorporated into the existing guidance; updated the list of background documents to the Guidance; and developed a plan for further work.

This workshop will feature discussions of thematic areas for enhanced synergies among the biodiversity-related conventions on: the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020, the Aichi targets and national biodiversity strategies and action plans; institutional arrangements and coordination mechanisms; information and knowledge management; national reporting, monitoring and indicators; communication and awareness-raising; science-policy interface; capacity building; and resource mobilization and utilization.

Event: Expert Group Meeting on Article 10 of the Nagoya Protocol on ABS [viewed]

Organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), this expert group meeting will address the views submitted on the need for and modalities of a global multilateral benefit-sharing mechanism under Article 10 of the Nagoya Protocol on Access and Benefit-sharing. It will consider a study on the experiences gained with the development and implementation of the Nagoya Protocol and other multilateral mechanisms, and the potential relevance of ongoing work undertaken by other processes.
