Event: CBD Capacity-Building Workshop for Central & Eastern Europe, Central Asia for Implementation of PoWPA [viewed]

Organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the PoWPA Friends Consortium and hosted by the Ministry of Environment, Mining and Spatial Planning of Serbia, this workshop aims to build capacity to: create national action plans for implementation of the programme of work on protected areas (PoWPA); access funding based on these action plans; and strengthen implementation of the PoWPA on the themes of governance, climate change, sustainable financing, and valuation of the costs and benefits of protected areas.

Event: CBD Latin American and Caribbean Capacity-Building Workshops for Indigenous and Local Community Representatives [viewed]

The first workshop, to be held from 13-16 August 2012, will focus on Articles 8(j) (traditional knowledge), 10(c) (sustainable customary use) and related provisions of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), as well as the Nagoya Protocol on access and benefit-sharing, and aims at preparing indigenous and local community representatives for the eleventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the CBD. In support of "Train the Trainer" methodology, the second workshop, to be held from 17-18 August 2012, is focused on indigenous and local community trainers and aims at familiarising trainers with Convention training materials and preparing them for the further dissemination of information received. Event: CBD Eastern Tropical and Temperate Pacific Workshop to Facilitate the Description of EBSAs [viewed]

The Eastern Tropical and Temperate Pacific regional workshop to facilitate the description of ecologicallly or biologically significant marine areas (EBSAs) is convened by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), in collaboration with the Secretariat of the Permanent Commission for the South Pacific (CPPS). It will include one day of training on the application of CBD EBSA criteria and a four-day workshop.

SBSTTA 16 Adopts Recommendations on Marine and Coastal Biodiversity, Biodiversity and Climate Change [viewed]

It also addressed the Intergovernmental Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), and in-depth review of the work programme on island biodiversity (PoWIB), inter alia.

Seychelles Fourth Country to Ratify ABS Protocol [viewed]

27 April 2012: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has reported that, on 20 April 2012, Seychelles became the fourth country to ratify the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) to the CBD.
