Event: CBD Online Forum on Facilitating Public Access to Biosafety Information [viewed]

This online discussion group is organized as part of the Convention on Biological Diversity's (CBD) Online Forum on Public Awareness, Education and Participation Concerning the Safe Transfer, Handling and Use of Living Modified Organisms (LMOs). The discussion group aims to enable exchange of views and information regarding facilitating public access to biosafety information in the context of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. It will address the following themes: procedures for facilitating public access to biosafety information; format and language; timelines for providing information upon request; charging for providing information upon request; denial of information upon request; confidentiality; appeals; means of active dissemination; and biosafety records management systems. Parties, other governments and relevant organizations are invited to nominate individuals involved in, or responsible for, promoting public awareness, education and participation at the national level to participate in the Forum.

CARICOM Trains Negotiators on MEAs [viewed]

The discussion group aims to facilitate exchange of views and information regarding the meaning, scope and importance of public access to information on biosafety in the context of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety. It will address the following themes: meaning and scope of public access to information; public right to information; and the rationale/importance of public access to biosafety information. Parties, other governments and relevant organizations are invited to nominate individuals involved in, or responsible for, promoting public awareness, education and participation at the national level to participate in the Forum.

Event: Fair on National Experiences with the Implementation of the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety [viewed]

Organized jointly by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and the Government of India, this fair will be held at the margins of of the sixth meeting of the CBD Conference of the Parties serving as the meeting of the Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (COP-MOP 6). It will provide Parties, other Governments and relevant organizations with the opportunity to showcase their national experiences, good practices and lessons learned on various topics, including: national implementation of the Strategic Plan for the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety (2011-2020); development and implementation of National Biosafety Frameworks; design and implementation of biosafety capacity-building activities; use of the Biosafety Clearing-House; and implementation of the programme of work on public awareness, education and participation concerning the safe transfer, handling and use of living modified organisms (2011-2015).
