Bioversity Shares Draft on Mutually Supportive Implementation of ITPGR and Nagoya Protocol [viewed]

Bioversity InternationalApril 2015: Bioversity International has shared a discussion draft exploring the mutually supportive implementation of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR) and the Nagoya Protocol on access and benefit-sharing (ABS). The draft was developed through a series of interactions involving the national focal points for the ITPGR and the Nagoya Protocol, experts and stakeholders.

CBD Secretariat Surveying National Approaches on Assessing Progress towards Aichi Targets [viewed]

CBD2 April 2015: In preparation for the meeting of the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group (AHTEG) on Indicators for the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has circulated a survey, conducted in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme - World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC), to collect information related to the different approaches used by Parties to assess national progress towards the achievement of the Aichi biodiversity targets, as well as on the use of global-level data to support monitoring of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity.

Event: CBD AHTEG on Indicators for the Strategic Plan on Biodiversity [viewed]

Organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Ad Hoc Technical Expert Group (AHTEG) on indicators for the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 is expected to: identify a small set of measurable potential indicators to monitor global progress towards achievement of the Aichi Biodiversity Targets; and prepare guidance on the different types of indicators and approaches used to monitor progress in implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity at regional, national and sub-national levels.

UN Urges Improved Water Governance and Action on World Water Day [viewed]

un-water22 March 2015: On World Water Day, UN leaders and others called for urgent cooperation to ensure access to safe drinking water and sanitation. The 2015 World Water Development Report (WWDR), which the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) launched for the Day, recommends a dedicated Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on water, which the report says would contribute to poverty alleviation and improvements in the environment, health and food and energy production.
