Event: Expert Group Meeting on Land Indicators [viewed]

The Global Land Indicator Initiative (GLII) will hold an Expert Group Meeting on Land Indicators as part of its ongoing work to advance the harmonization of global land indicators through a multi-stakeholder process. The meeting is expected to address the development of land indicators within the context of the post-2015 development agenda and existing frameworks, including the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance on Tenure of Land, Fisheries and Forests (VGGTs). The meeting will be held in conjunction with the 15th annual Conference on Land and Poverty, which will address the theme, 'Integrating Land Governance into the Post-2015 Agenda: Harnessing Synergies for Implementation and Monitoring Impact'.

Event: e-Debate on Retooling 'Cities for Life': New Approaches to Urban Infrastructure and Service Provision [viewed]

The conversation on ‘Retooling "Cities for Life": New approaches to urban infrastructure and service provision' is part of three e-Debates on urban equity in development that URB.im is hosting in advance of the Seventh World Urban Forum (WUF 7), which will take place under the theme, ‘Urban Equity in Development—Cities for Life'. This discussion will consider how to promote an equity-driven approach to urban infrastructure development to ensure access to energy, housing, transportation, and water and sanitation. Participants will discuss key actors who should participate in inclusive, sustainable service delivery, including governments, the private sector, civil society and academia, and how these actors can complement and coordinate efforts. The discussion will also consider how to deliver goods while meeting goals of inclusion, justice and urban sustainability. Six panelists will participate in the discussion: Clarisse Linke, Institute for Transportation and Development Policy; Nithya Raman, Transparent Chennai; John Taylor, Yayasan Kota Kita; Charlton Ziervogel, CORC/SDI Secretariat; Wura Ladipo-Ajayi, Lagos Community Manager, URB.im; and Tariq Toffa, Cape Town and Johannesburg Community Manager, URB.im.

UN-HABITAT, UNDP, FAO Pilot Land Management for Conflict Resolution in the Congo [viewed]

Event: Global WOPs Congress and GWOPA General Assembly [viewed]

The Global Water Operators' Partnerships Alliance (GWOPA) will hold its Second Global WOPs Congress and GWOPA General Assembly under the theme ‘Fostering Cooperation between Water Operators'. GWOPA's bi-annual global forum aims to share information and experience on WOPs and bring together WOPs practitioners, utilities, donors, knowledge institutions and other stakeholders to advance knowledge and initiate action on WOPs. The forum includes plenary sessions, high level panels on utilities and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), roundtables on WOPs and finance, capacity development for water management, risk reduction and regional issues, and a networking fair. The GWOPA General Assembly will be held on the third day of the Congress to renew GWOPA's Steering Committee. WOPs are peer-support exchanges between water or sanitation operators that aim to strengthen capacity. The UN Secretary General's Advisory Board on Water and Sanitation (UNSGAB) coined the term WOPs in its 2006 Hashimoto Action Plan, which called for scaling up WOPs globally.

Cambodia, Lao PDR, Viet Nam to Accelerate Efforts on Water and Sanitation MDGs [viewed]

UN-HABITAT28 June 2013: Cambodia, the Lao People's Democratic Republic (PDR) and Viet Nam signed the 'Vientiane Declaration' to support and scale up efforts under the UN Human Settlements' (UN-HABITAT) Mekong Region Water and Sanitation (MEK-WATSAN) Initiative. The Initiative supports the three Mekong region countries in their efforts to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on water and sanitation.
