land_water_days_banner12 November 2015: The 3rd edition of ‘Land and Water Days,' which took place in Rome, Italy, from 10-12 November 2015, highlighted challenges related to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and the need for integrated responses in terms of soil and water management practices. The event was co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the International Fund for Agriculture and Development (IFAD) and the World Food Programme (WFP), with contributions from the Global Mechanism (GM) of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and other stakeholders.

This first meeting of non-regional civil society organization (NR-CSO) members of the International Land Coalition (ILC) will bring together approximately 30 representatives of farmers and research organizations, and international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to: consolidate the ILC NR-CSO group; approve the NR-CSO engagement strategy; plan collective action for the 2015 ILC workplan; and provide inputs to the ILC strategic framework 2016-2020. The two-day event will include, inter alia, presentations, debates, and strategic and networking sessions.

FAO, IFAD, WFP Launch Community of Practice on Food Loss Reduction [viewed]

In a statement marking the day, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said rural women are essential for achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and a universal climate agreement, and urged addressing the discrimination and deprivation that rural women suffer, including lack of access to land, markets, finance, social protection and services.
