june2015-climatefinance11 July 2015: During the month of June, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the World Bank, the Adaptation Fund, the World Agroforestry Centre, the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNISDR), the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) DTU Partnership reported on climate finance projects and other related news. ADB, AfDB, GCF, the World Bank, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the Partnership for Market Readiness (PMR), the Climate Investment Funds (CIF), the UNEP Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) launched publications.

WMO, Norwegian Refugee Council to Enhance African Countries' Climate Resilience [viewed]

wmo-nrc17 June 2015: A Norwegian NGO and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) are partnering to increase the capacity of governments in Africa to address climate change, extreme weather events and variable rainfall. Under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by WMO and the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), experts will work with the national institutions of vulnerable countries to develop climate information and products and operationalize the Global Framework for Climate Services (GFCS).

Event: 3rd ASEAN Climate Outlook Forum [viewed]

The 3rd ASEAN Climate Outlook Forum (ASEANCOF-3) is being organized by the Meteorological Service Singapore, as host of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Specialized Meteorological Centre. Attendees will include national meteorological services, and representatives from the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), ASEAN Secretariat, among others. The forum will meet for two days, followed by a training workshop on the third day. ASEANCOF-3 will focus on, among other issues, the application of long-range forecasts in the water management sector.

Event: Emerging Activities to Combat Climate Change: Use of FAO Data and IPCC GHG Inventory Guidelines for Agriculture and Land Use [viewed]

FAO, IPCC and IFAD are jointly organizing this expert meeting, which will take place in Rome, Italy, at FAO headquarters, on 13-14 November 2014. Participants will gather as a follow-up to a 2009 joint FAO-IPCC-IFAD event. The 2014 expert meeting is meant to serve both as a reflection of progress made since 2009 and as an opportunity to build on lessons learned and to address emerging needs in the area of improved forest and rural statistics, for use not only in national GHG inventory and mitigation, but also for rural development in general. In this regard, experts will discuss the new data and tools developed by FAO, such as FAOSTAT Emissions Database and new guidelines on mitigation. The event will address the urgent need to conduct analyses, identify actions and implement activities for both mitigation and adaptation responses to climate change.

Western Balkans and Turkey Agree to Develop Regional Early Warning System [viewed]

International Symposium Addresses Weather, Climate Extremes, Food Security and Biodiversity [viewed]

wmo-fao-georgemason24 October 2014: Organized by the George Mason University (GMU), the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), in collaboration with 11 co-sponsors, the International Symposium on Weather and Climate Extremes, Food Security and Biodiversity has produced a final declaration, including a list of “salient recommendations” on the issues.
