Neman Basin Countries Discuss Climate Change Adaptation [viewed]

CPF Chair Supports Two Forest Targets in SDGs [viewed]

fao-cpf23 June 2014: An ideal forests scenario for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) would include two forest-specific targets, according to Eduardo Rojas-Briales, chair of the 14-member Collaborative Partnership on Forests (CPF) and Assistant Deputy Director-General for Forestry, at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), in an interview during World Forest Week. Forests are specifically referenced under Proposed Goal 15 in the ‘Zero Draft' on the SDGs, which was released by the Co-Chairs of the Open Working Group (OWG) on the SDGs.

Event: Silva2015 and Third European Forest Week [viewed]

UNECA Reports on Energy Access and Security in Eastern Africa [viewed]

UNECA10 June 2014: The UN Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) has launched a report detailing the state of energy access and security in 14 Eastern African countries. The report finds that Eastern Africa's population has one of the lowest electricity access rates in the world, ranging from 1% in the State of South Sudan (9.3 million people without access) to 22.5% in Ethiopia (nearly 64.5 million without access).

UNECE, FAO Support SFM in Central Asia, Turkey [viewed]

FAO UNECE4 June 2014: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) Forestry and Timber Section held a capacity building workshop for forest product statistics in Eastern Europe, Central Asia and Caucasus. FAO has announced renewed partnership with the Turkish Government to address forests and food security in the region.

ECLAC Proposes Compacts for Equality and Sustainable Development [viewed]

Event: 72nd Session of the Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry (COFFI) [viewed]

The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry (COFFI) will consider the 'Rovaniemi Action Plan for the Forest Sector in a Green Economy,' which consists of five pillars: sustainable production and consumption of forest products, a low carbon forest sector, decent green jobs in the forest sector, long term provision of forest ecosystem services, and policy development and monitoring of the forest sector in relation to a green economy. The workshop will also address forest resources assessment and reporting issues and develop guidance on implementation of the UNECE/ Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) Integrated Programme of Work.

Forest Communicators Network Aims to Broaden Reach with Simpler Messaging [viewed]

UNECE Presents Model Provisions for Transboundary Groundwater Management [viewed]

UNECE2014: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has published a report, titled 'Model Provisions on Transboundary Groundwaters,' which seeks to improve transboundary water management in the context of the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention). The report includes nine provisions for the management of transboundary groundwater along with commentary and encourages their use by states sharing transboundary groundwater.
