ECLAC Proposes Compacts for Equality and Sustainable Development [viewed]

ECLAC5 May 2014: The Secretariat of the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) proposed to the biennial session of the Commission six "social compacts" on equality and development covering fiscal policy, investment, industrial policy, inclusive financing, labor reform, public services, environmental sustainability and natural resource governance.

Event: 72nd Session of the Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry (COFFI) [viewed]

The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Committee on Forests and the Forest Industry (COFFI) will consider the 'Rovaniemi Action Plan for the Forest Sector in a Green Economy,' which consists of five pillars: sustainable production and consumption of forest products, a low carbon forest sector, decent green jobs in the forest sector, long term provision of forest ecosystem services, and policy development and monitoring of the forest sector in relation to a green economy. The workshop will also address forest resources assessment and reporting issues and develop guidance on implementation of the UNECE/ Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) Integrated Programme of Work.

Forest Communicators Network Aims to Broaden Reach with Simpler Messaging [viewed]

The meeting stressed the importance of adapting messages to different audiences and focused on the best use of social media and innovative communication approaches.

UNECE Presents Model Provisions for Transboundary Groundwater Management [viewed]

UNECE2014: The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has published a report, titled 'Model Provisions on Transboundary Groundwaters,' which seeks to improve transboundary water management in the context of the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention). The report includes nine provisions for the management of transboundary groundwater along with commentary and encourages their use by states sharing transboundary groundwater.

UNECE/FAO Support Contribution of Forests to Kazakhstan's Green Economy [viewed]

FAO UNECE24 April 2014: Stemming in part from the 2013 'Rovaniemi Action Plan for the Forest Sector in a Green Economy,' Kazakhstan, with the support of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) Forestry and Timber Section, will develop an action plan to increase the contribution of its forests to the development of a green economy.

Event: UNECE/FAO Forests and Sustainable Development Goals - Second Workshop [viewed]

The UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) Forestry and Timber Section are convening a workshop to discuss ways and means to integrate forests into the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The first meeting identified the need for a strong target on forests to be included in the SDGs. The second meeting will continue deliberations, including on how the group can support the SDG process.

Event: 3rd International Forum on Integrated Water Management [viewed]

This meeting will bring together approximately 500 participants to discuss transboundary water management in a changing climate. The meeting will include workshops led by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) Potential Conflict – Cooperation Potential (PCCP) programme and the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Secretariat for the International Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (Water Convention), which will address the place of water in the design of the post-2015 development agenda.
