Final MDG Report: Gains, Shortfalls Point Way to Post-2015 Success [viewed]

milenium_goals_report6 July 2015: Extreme poverty was ended for more than one billion people through efforts under the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), according to the final edition of the MDGs Report. The 2015 report highlights achievements in access to drinking water, universal primary education, child and maternal health, gender equality and eliminating hunger, among others. However, the report also underscores the need for more work as part of the post-2015 development agenda and the proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to ensure that the poorest and most vulnerable people are not left behind.

UNFF and Partners Discuss SFM and Climate Finance in Southeast Asia [viewed]

UN Urges Improved Water Governance and Action on World Water Day [viewed]

un-water22 March 2015: On World Water Day, UN leaders and others called for urgent cooperation to ensure access to safe drinking water and sanitation. The 2015 World Water Development Report (WWDR), which the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) launched for the Day, recommends a dedicated Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) on water, which the report says would contribute to poverty alleviation and improvements in the environment, health and food and energy production.

Event: Workshop on Harnessing Climate Change Financing for Sustainable Forest Management in Southeast Asia [viewed]

Convened under the UN Forum on Forests Facilitative Process to support financing for sustainable forest management (SFM), the 'Workshop on Harnessing Climate Change Financing for Sustainable Forest Management in Southeast Asia' will consider links and opportunities for harmonization between SFM financing and REDD+. The workshop will be co-convened with the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP).

ESCAP Workshop Supports Drought Monitoring in Asia-Pacific [viewed]

UNESCAP1 July 2014: A workshop on drought monitoring and early warning organized by the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the Sri Lankan Ministry of Technology and Research focused on strategies and sharing of good practices to reduce the negative impacts of agricultural drought. Recommendations from the workshop will support strengthening of the ESCAP Regional Drought Mechanism as well as national disaster management plans in the Asia-Pacific region.

Event: CBD Workshop for Asia and the Pacific on Resource Mobilization [viewed]

This workshop is one of a series of regional workshops to support parties in the establishment of robust baselines and reporting frameworks, and the preparation of national financial plans for biodiversity. Its emphasis will be on exchange of national experiences and active learning, and the step-by-step development of individualized and prioritized action plans towards the development of national finance plans. It is organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the UN Development Programme (UNDP), the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and the UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC).

UNU-INWEH Annual Report Highlights Work on Post-2015 Agenda [viewed]

UNESCAP Announces New Regional Mechanism on Drought [viewed]

UNESCAP29 November 2013: The Third Session of the Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) has concluded with a call on the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP) to facilitate regional cooperation to harness technological advances for resilient, inclusive and sustainable development. In response, ESCAP's Regional Space Applications Programme for Sustainable Development (RESAP) announced the development and operationalization of a new regional mechanism on drought.
