Sourcebook of Opportunities for Enhancing Cooperation among the Biodiversity-related Conventions at National and Regional Levels8 June 2015: The ‘Sourcebook of Opportunities for Enhancing Cooperation among the Biodiversity-related Conventions at National and Regional Levels' was officially launched during an event organized by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) on the sidelines of the 12th Meeting of the Conference of the Contracting Parties to the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands (COP 12) in Punta del Este, Uruguay, on 8 June 2015. The Sourcebook uses 63 illustrative examples to showcase how individual countries and regional groups are realizing benefits from working collaboratively.

PIFS27 May 2015: The Pacific Ocean Alliance held its inaugural meeting and discussed the priorities of Pacific Island countries in relation to resources found in areas beyond national jurisdiction, for example, tuna and deep-sea ecosystems. The meeting concluded with an affirmation to maintain the focus on proclaiming the maritime boundaries of Pacific Island nations, to ensure that they benefit from the sustainable use, management and conservation of ocean resources.

Event: Oceania Regional Conservation Forum [viewed]

The Oceania Regional Conservation Forum will provide a platform for members of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific to share their experiences and best practices, and to make decisions on a joint programme of action to enhance the resilience of people and nature in the region. Participants will discuss how they can contribute to global and regional efforts to halt environmental decline and promote socio-economic well-being that supports cultural and biological diversity.This meeting is held every four years as the IUCN prepares for the World Conservation Congress. The World Conservation Congress will be held in 2016 in Hawaii, US.

GEF Council Consultation with CSOs Discusses CSO Engagement, Knowledge Management [viewed]

iisdrs_gef1 June 2015: The Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council consultation meeting with civil society organizations (CSOs) gathered approximately 100 participants to focus on three topics: a dialogue with the GEF CEO; strengthening CSO engagement in the GEF; and knowledge management in the GEF. Just after the close of the consultation, the first meeting of the new Working Group on Implementation of the GEF Public Involvement Policy (PIP) convened, involving members of the GEF CSO Network, the GEF Secretariat and the GEF Council. The day-long CSO Consultation took place immediately before the 48th meeting of the GEF Council, which will convene at the same venue from 2-4 June 2015.

GEF Project Extends Conservation Boundaries to Encompass “Protected Landscapes” in Namibia [viewed]
