PFII Collects Input on WCIP Follow-up [viewed]

Unpfii10 March 2015: The UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (PFII) launched a questionnaire to collect indigenous peoples' input on the follow-up to the 2014 World Conference on Indigenous Peoples (WCIP), in particular the development of the System-Wide Action Plan to ensure a coherent approach of the UN system to achieve the ends of the Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and the preparation of the report of the UN Secretary-General requested in the WCIP outcome document. The deadline for responses is 6 April 2015.

GFIA Focuses on Sustainable and Climate-Smart Agriculture [viewed]

gfia11 March 2015: To help meet the goal of increasing agricultural production while minimizing environmental damage, the 2nd Global Forum for Innovations in Agriculture (GFIA) met to showcase sustainable agriculture innovations and solutions. The forum featured, inter alia: a Global Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) Summit; a solutions conference on ‘Food Losses and Waste Initiative: From Prevention to Valorisation'; a two-day conference on ICT for Sustainable Agriculture; a session on ‘Edible Cities: Building Resilience with Urban Agriculture'; and an Innovations Programme, with sessions on agribusiness, water, mechanization, renewable energy and agroforestry.

UNCCD Conference Stresses Role of Science and Traditional Knowledge in Scaling Up Land-Based Adaptation [viewed]

IOSEA, WWF Publish Fact Sheet on Illegal Take and Trade in Marine Turtles [viewed]

logos_iosea_wwf4 March 2015: The Secretariat of the Indian Ocean-South East Asian (IOSEA) Marine Turtle Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has published a fact sheet based on an IOSEA synthesis paper, titled 'Illegal Take and Trade in Marine Turtles in the Indian Ocean Region,' which was presented at the seventh meeting of IOSEA Signatory States in 2014. The fact sheet was developed by the IOSEA Secretariat and World Wildlife Fund (WWF).

Event: Towards a Sustainable and Legal Wildlife Trade Symposium [viewed]

Organized by the International Trade Centre (a joint UN/World Trade Organization agency) and Durrell Institute for Conservation and Ecology (DICE), University of Kent, this symposium aims to enhance understanding on how to support trade in wildlife that is sustainable, legal and consistent with the principles of sustainable development. Key objectives of the two-day symposium are to: foster dialogue between researchers, economists, policy makers, the private sector and other conservation-related disciplines; provide evidence-based options for improved conservation trade policy; and establish a research agenda for wildlife trade in the global economy.

Global Land Outlook Discussed on Sidelines of UNCCD 3rd Scientific Conference [viewed]

CSOs Release Publications on Post-2015 Indicators, Priorities [viewed]

March 2015: Civil society organizations have published various inputs to and analyses of the post-2015 development agenda, the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and the Financing for Development (FfD) processes. Stakeholder groups and other experts elaborated their views on: SDG indicators; estimating the costs of the SDGs; human rights in the agenda; the responsibilities of developed countries; gender equality; land rights; and cross-sectoral partnerships for sustainable development.
