FAO/UNCCD GM Workshop Explores Upscaling Private Investments in Landscape Restoration [viewed]

fao_gm15 July 2015: A two-day expert consultation on private investments in Forest and Landscape Restoration (FLR), co-organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and the Global Mechanism (GM) of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), explored ways to scale up FLR investments to enhance livelihood opportunities for rural communities in drylands and reduce forced migration from such areas.

IITA, UCLA Partner on Congo Basin Research [viewed]

iita_ucla15 July 2015: The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA), a member of the CGIAR Consortium, and the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) have established a new research facility in Cameroon, the Congo Basin Institute, which aims to address challenges of food and water security, climate change, biodiversity loss, public health and emerging diseases with focus on the Congo Basin.

Event: Implementing the Oceans SDG: From Knowledge to Action [viewed]

The conference aims to discuss and identify how to achieve the proposed Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on oceans, including how to make the best use of scientific knowledge and put oceans on a sustainable pathway. Participants will also address implementation of the proposed SDG. The Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI) in partnership with the US Embassy in France and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC/UNESCO) are organizing the conference.

Event: World Water Week 2015 [viewed]

World Water Week 2015 will meet under the theme ‘Water for Development,' with experts, practitioners, decision makers, business innovators and young professionals from a range of sectors and countries coming together to network, exchange ideas, stimulate innovative thinking and develop solutions to water-related challenges. The Week will include 160 events and eight workshops to discuss issues related to financing, the proposed sustainable development goals (SDGs), integrity, gender, climate change, energy, sanitation, food, conflict resolution and water management. World Water Week in Stockholm is an annual event that focuses on current global water issues, and is organized by the Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI). 2015 is the jubilee year for both the Week and the Stockholm Water Prize.

World Leaders' Conservation Forum Promotes Co-Existence between Humans and Nature [viewed]

wlcf9 July 2015: The first World Leaders' Conservation Forum (WLCF) served as a platform for leaders from government, business, civil society and academia to discuss and devise innovative nature-based solutions to global environmental, economic and social challenges. The Forum underscored the important role of nature conservation in peace building and sustainable development, and called for “bold leadership” at both the global and local levels to halt biodiversity loss.
