AfDB/WWF Report Examines What Africa's Economic Success Means for its “Ecological Future” [viewed]

african_ecological_futures27 May 2015: As part of events marking the 50th anniversary of the African Development Bank (AfDB), AfDB and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) launched the 'African Ecological Futures Report 2015,' in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, on 26 May 2015. The report opens with the observation that with many countries sustaining high economic growth over the past 15 years, “the narrative is rightly beginning to question the extent to which Africa's growth is sustainably transforming livelihoods while lifting millions from abject poverty.”

Event: Oceania Regional Conservation Forum [viewed]

The Oceania Regional Conservation Forum will provide a platform for members of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific to share their experiences and best practices, and to make decisions on a joint programme of action to enhance the resilience of people and nature in the region. Participants will discuss how they can contribute to global and regional efforts to halt environmental decline and promote socio-economic well-being that supports cultural and biological diversity.This meeting is held every four years as the IUCN prepares for the World Conservation Congress. The World Conservation Congress will be held in 2016 in Hawaii, US.

Event: 67th Semi-annual IEA-ETSAP Meeting [viewed]

The International Energy Agency's (IEA) Energy Technology Systems Analysis Program (ETSAP) will hold its 67th semi-annual meeting from 1-2 June 2015 in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Hosted by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the meeting will comprise two events: the ETSAP Regular Workshop; and the ETSAP Executive Committee Meeting. Topics covered during the workshop will include: impacts of renewable energy promotion; renewable energy technology integration; forecasting road transport energy demand; the energy-water nexus; decarbonization pathways; and synergies and co-benefits of climate change mitigation. The event will be held back to back with the International Energy Workshop 2015, hosted by IRENA in Abu Dhabi, the UAE, from 3-5 June.
