UNEP, Brazil's ANA to Promote Water Quality through Regional Centre [viewed]

July 2014 Climate Finance Update [viewed]

EIB-CIF-AfDB-EBRD-World Bank-GEF31 July 2014: During July 2014, the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) have reported on climate investments. Both the African Development Bank (AfDB) and European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) announced partnerships with the Climate Investment Funds (CIF) for a variety of climate-related investments. The World Bank also announced additional funding to be provided by CIF.

Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change Project's Final Review Conducted [viewed]

PACC28 July 2014: The fifth and final multi-partite review of the Pacific Adaptation to Climate Change (PACC) Project, scheduled to finish in December 2014, was conducted in Nadi, Fiji. The PACC Project is a partnership funded by Australia and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), with the UN Development Programme (UNDP) as implementing agency and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) as implementing partner.

Mexico, California Enhance Cooperation on Climate Change [viewed]

california-mexico-flags28 July 2014: The Mexican Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources and its National Forestry Commission and the State of California, US, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on enhancing cooperation on climate change and the environment. The objective of the MoU is to promote bilateral actions in the areas of climate change, forest wildfires, air quality and clean transport through 2018.

Event: VI Latin American and the Caribbean Energy Efficiency Seminar [viewed]

The Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), together with Nicaragua's Ministry of Energy and Mines, will co-host the VI Latin American and the Caribbean Energy Efficiency Seminar, which seeks to identify regional challenges to mitigating the environmental impacts of energy and to share experiences and best practices in energy efficiency. The EE 2014 seminar will include discussions of energy efficiency measures in the hydrocarbons sector, energy efficiency in public water systems, energy-efficient construction, strategies and mechanisms for the massive introduction into national markets of efficient appliances and equipment, applied measures and technologies for efficient transportation, and financing opportunities for energy efficiency in the region.

Civil Society Reacts to Proposed SDGs [viewed]

OWGJuly 2014: In reaction to the final outcome of the Open Working Group (OWG) on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in which it proposed SDGs at the conclusion of the 13th session (OWG 13), a number of Major Groups and civil society organizations have released papers and press releases commenting on the proposal. The majority of reactions suggest the outcome is a significant step forward, while also highlighting specific concerns. Many groups expressed appreciation for the OWG's inclusiveness, noting that full and meaningful participation of civil society is being recognized as an essential aspect of the new global agenda.

Event: International Conference on Ecohydrology [viewed]

The International Conference on Ecohydrology aims to synthesize information and knowledge gaps to address issues related to aquatic ecosystems; and to assess how ecohydrology and ecotechnology could provide low cost environmentally sound technology for sustainable water management, especially in the Asia Pacific region. The meeting will be held in conjunction with the 22nd meeting of the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) International Hydrological Programme (IHP) Regional Steering Committee for Southeast Asia and the Pacific.

Social Pre-COP Preparatory Event Issues Margarita Declaration [viewed]

logo-precop18 July 2014: A preparatory event for the Social Pre-COP on Climate Change, organized by the Government of Venezuela, resulted in the "Margarita Declaration on Climate Change," which contains views of participating organizations and movements structured around the themes of intergenerational equality and rights, and good and sustainable living. The results of the preparatory event will be presented to the UN Secretary General's Climate Summit in September 2014.
