Stakeholder Launch of Sustainable Innovation Forum 2015 Held at Climate Week Paris [viewed]

climate_action_parisweek21 May 2015: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) and Climate Action held a Stakeholder Launch of the Sustainable Innovation Forum 2015 (SIF15) at Climate Week Paris, 200 days ahead of the SIF event to be held at the 21st session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 21) to the UNFCCC in December 2015. UNEP and Climate Action partner to host the SIF, which is the largest business-focused event at each COP session.

SE4ALL Launches Sustainable Bioenergy Initiative [viewed]

SE4ALL20 May 2015: A multi-stakeholder coalition has been launched, co-chaired by the Food and Agricultural Organization of the UN (FAO) and the Roundtable on Sustainable Biomaterials (RSB), to scale up the development and deployment of sustainable bioenergy solutions in order to meet global sustainable energy needs and contribute to the Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) goals of doubling global renewable energy use and ensuring universal energy access by 2030.

Southwest Pacific Ministers of Agriculture14 May 2015: The Eleventh Meeting of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) Southwest Pacific Ministers for Agriculture convened under the theme 'Climate-Smart Agriculture.' After hearing a presentation on the vulnerability of Pacific agriculture and forestry to climate change, ministers noted the importance of a “climate and economically smart” agriculture approach that can strengthen production and processing of staple food crops.

UNEP Calls for Resource-Efficient Growth in Asia-Pacific [viewed]

UNEP19 May 2015: During the First Forum of Ministers and Environment Authorities of Asia Pacific, the UN Environment Programme (UNEP) released a report detailing patterns of resource use in the Asia-Pacific region. The report, titled 'Indicators for a Resource Efficient and Green Asia and the Pacific,' finds that wasteful use of resources is detrimental the region's future growth, but that countries in the region have great potential for low-carbon and resource-efficient growth.

2015 Global Land Forum Focuses on Africa, Indigenous Peoples' Rights [viewed]

Event: 6th International Wildland Fire Conference [viewed]

Hosted by the Korea Forest Service (KFS) and the Gangwon Province, the Republic of Korea, the conference will consider ways to limit the damage to forests caused by wildfires including through exchanging knowledge and experiences and strengthening the Global Wild Land Fire Network. The conference will have a particular focus on the links between fires in forests and cultural heritage and practices.

GEF, World Bank Support Contaminated Site Management in China [viewed]

GEF30 April 2015: The World Bank Group's Board of Executive Directors has approved a Contaminated Site Management Project to help clean up contaminated sites and improve soil pollution management in two provinces in China. Qing Wang, World Bank, said the project will help the Government of China sustainably manage contaminated sites and reduce environmental and health risks, while contributing to China's implementation of the Stockholm Convention (SC) on the Elimination of Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs).
