ABS Protocol Receives 50 Ratifications, Enters into Force on 12 October 2014 [viewed]

CBD14 July 2014: Following the most recent ratifications by Switzerland and Uruguay, the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has gathered the required number of ratifications to enter into force.

CBD11 July 2014: Niger, Burundi, the Gambia, Madagascar, Mozambique, Sudan and Peru ratified the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) in July 2014, bringing the total number of ratifications to 48.

ITPGR Celebrates 10 Years of Entry Into Force [viewed]

ITPGR3 July 2014: On 3 July 2014, in Geneva, Switzerland, the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR) celebrated its 10th birthday since its entry into force on 29 June 2004. The event aimed to highlight the Treaty's role in ensuring global food security, farmers' rights, sustainable agriculture, and fair and equitable benefit-sharing arising from the use of plant genetic resources.

ABS Protocol Reaches 42 Ratifications [viewed]

Cbd Logo1 July 2014: The European Union (EU), Namibia and Samoa ratified the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) in May 2014, followed by Belarus, Guatemala, Spain and Uganda, which ratified in June 2014, and Vanuatu, which ratified on 1 July 2014, bringing the total number of ratifications to 42.

Event: WIPO IGC-28 [viewed]

The 28th session of the Intergovernmental Committee on Intellectual Property and Genetic Resources, Traditional Knowledge and Folklore (IGC) of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) will be a cross-cutting session on genetic resources, traditional knowledge and traditional cultural expressions. The IGC will also take stock of progress and make a recommendation on future work to the WIPO General Assembly, which will decide on convening a diplomatic conference.
