Papua New Guinea Joins ITPGR [viewed]

ITPGRMarch 2015: Papua New Guinea deposited the instrument of accession to the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR) in February 2015, and will become a Party on 6 May 2015, bringing the number of ITPGR Parties to 135.

CBD Secretariat Calls for Input on New and Emerging Issues, Climate Change-Related Matters [viewed]

CBD17 February 2015: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has issued a series of notifications calling for views and information on new and emerging issues to be considered by the CBD Subsidiary Body on Scientific, Technical and Technological Advice (SBSTTA), the potential impacts of geoengineering on biodiversity, and other climate change-related activities, including experiences with ecosystem-based approaches to climate change adaptation and disaster risk reduction.

Event: ITPGR Governing Body 6 [viewed]

Organized by the Secretariat of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR), the sixth session of the Governing Body (GB) will be preceded by two days of regional consultations. The session will address a series of items related to the operations of the Treaty's Multilateral System of Access and Benefit-sharing, as well as farmers' rights and sustainable use of plant genetic resources. In addition, on 3 October, a High-Level Event will discuss recent policy developments on the Multilateral System.

CBD Secretariat Initiates Preparations for Working Group on Article 8(j) [viewed]

CBD5 February 2015: In preparation for the ninth meeting of the Working Group on Article 8(j) (traditional knowledge) and related provisions, tentatively planned for November 2015, the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) has issued a notification calling for input from Parties, indigenous peoples and local communities, and relevant organizations on several items, including on repatriation of traditional knowledge, prior informed consent (PIC), and fair and equitable sharing of benefits from the use of traditional knowledge.

Event: Second Meeting of the ITPGR Technical Committee on Sustainable Use of PGRFA [viewed]

The Committee will provide advice to the Secretary of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGR) on the coordination of the programme of work on sustainable use of plant genetic resources for food and agriculture (PGRFA), cooperation with the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and other relevant processes, and the development of a toolbox on the sustainable use of PGRFA.
