UNDP, Samoa Showcase Biogas Partnership [viewed]

samoa-unep29 August 2014: The UN Development Programme (UNDP), Samoa's Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MNRE) and the Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP) are showcasing their bio-fuel partnership at the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS), which is taking place in Apia, Samoa. The project has turned the Merremia vine - a toxic, invasive weed in Samoa - into electricity to generate biofuel and connect Samoan communities to the national grid.

UN-REDD Discusses Legal Protection of Indigenous Rights in the DRC [viewed]

CIFOR Report Highlights Importance of NTFP for Remote Communities [viewed]

CIFORAugust 2014: The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) published a comparative analysis on the use of non-timber forest products (NTFP) in Cameroon, Ghana and Nigeria. FFF Launched in Viet Nam [viewed]

FAO22 August 2014: The Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) began work in Viet Nam with a launch workshop introducing the FFF and engaging partners and stakeholders. As with the other pilot countries, the FFF in Viet Nam aims to improve the livelihoods and participation of women, smallholders and community groups.

Event: Colloquium on Forests and Climate: New Thinking for Transformational Change [viewed]

The Center for International Forestry Research (CIFOR) and the Earth Institute of Columbia University are convening this meeting to promote discussion on future priorities for research in forest and landscape governance and on the valuation of ecosystem services. Topics to be discussed include: energy supply for sustainable landscapes; challenges from climate variability and change to creating sustainable landscapes; agriculture-forestry nexus; green economy for rural prosperity; governance reform for land stewardship; and environmental and social integrity through multiple objective management of landscapes.

UNEP, UN-REDD Support REDD+ University Programmes [viewed]

unep-unredd20 August 2014: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), the UN Collaborative Programme on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation (UN-REDD) and the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies released a guide to strengthen the integration of REDD+ into university curriculum. The publication is intended to build in-country capacity within UN-REDD partner countries in order to identify and address research gaps.

ITTO TTM Reports on Objections to Indonesia Export Ban [viewed]
