Equator Prizes Awarded to 26 Local and Indigenous Leaders [viewed]

equator-prize-winner21 September 2014: The 2014 Equator Prize Awards Ceremony event honored 26 leaders of local and indigenous communities around the world, whose efforts to address climate change head on and innovate new solutions to issues of food security, land management and water conservation led to their selection from 1,234 global nominations. The Equator Initiative is a partnership between the UN Development Programme (UNDP) and various public and private donors.

GRID-Arendal, Rainforest Foundation Norway Publish 'The State of Rainforests 2014' [viewed]

State of the RainforestSeptember 2014: GRID-Arendal, a collaborative centre of the UN Environment Programme (UNEP), and Rainforest Foundation Norway have released a report on 'The State of Rainforests 2014.' The report is based on the 2010 Global Forest Resources Assessment carried out by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) and a remote sensing study by University of Maryland.

Event: Joint Session of the 38th European Forestry Commission and 72nd UNECE Committee on Forest and Forest Industry [viewed]

Created in 1947, the European Forestry Commission (EFC) is one of six Regional Forestry Commissions established by FAO to provide a policy and technical forum for countries to discuss and address forest issues on a regional basis. It meets bi-annually. The EFC has a number of associated subsidiary bodies, including the Working Party on the Management of Mountain Watersheds; the UNECE/FAO Working Party on Forest Statistics, Economics and Management; and seven UNECE/FAO Teams of Specialists.

SBI and SBSTA 41 Annotated Provisional Agendas Released [viewed]

UNFCCC16 September 2014: In order to assist delegations in their preparations, the UNFCCC Secretariat has released the provisional agendas and annotations for the 41st meetings of the Subsidiary Body for Implementation (SBI 41) and the Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA 41). The documents (FCCC/SBI/2014/9 and FCCC/SBSTA/2014/3) contain the meetings' provisional agendas, originally released on 2 September, with annotations.
