Event: Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development Annual Meeting 2016 [viewed]

The Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) is a unique global venue for sustained discussions on practical issues related to the sustainable management and development of the mining sector. It serves as a forum for dialogue between member- country governments, mining companies and industry associations and represents a growing network of leaders seeking to enhance the contribution of the mining sector to sustainable development. IGF annual sessions and regional meetings convene high-level representatives from developing-country governments, donor agencies, international organizations, civil society and the private sector, fostering coordinated action in strengthening good governance in the mineral sector. The 2016 IGF Annual General Meeting will focus on the theme, "The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Mining".

IUCN, WCS Present Nature-based Solutions for Mitigation and Adaptation [viewed]

Organization of Islamic Cooperation Commits to Implementing SDGs, Welcomes Paris Agreement [viewed]

oic15 April 2016: Heads of State and Government of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) welcomed the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the OIC's 13th Islamic Summit. In the Conference's Final Communiqué, participants supported actions to address climate change and implement the SDGs, among others.

Asia-Pacific Agencies Call for Investing in Youth [viewed]

switched-on28 March 2016: A thematic working group including 12 UN agencies, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) launched a joint report on the region's youth. The report emphasizes that investing in youth, who make up 60% of the global population of 15- to 24-year olds, will be crucial for successful implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Young people around the region contributed to the report, which was released in December 2015.

Event: Fourth Annual Conference of the Green Growth Knowledge Platform [viewed]

This conference will meet under the theme ‘Transforming Development through Inclusive Green Growth' and is being convened as part of Global Green Growth Week 2016, to be held from 5-9 September 2016 in Jeju Island, Republic of Korea. It will highlight research and policy considerations affecting pro-poor inclusive green growth and strengthen the Green Growth Knowledge Platform's (GGKP) objective of delivering pro-poor, socially inclusive green growth through best policy practices and strategically aligned efforts by international organizations. The conference will focus on links to policy outcomes and practical applications for delivering inclusive green growth in developing countries and emerging economies. It will bring together researchers, practitioners and policymakers in plenary and parallel sessions to: discuss the latest findings on policies and practices that stimulate inclusive green growth; identify priorities for action by stakeholders to pursue the most promising policies and practices; and build practitioner skills and define future research, knowledge sharing and collaboration opportunities. More specifically, sub-themes and session topics will address: strategy and policy, including distributional impacts from transitioning to green growth, inclusive green growth strategies, the informal economy, and tracking progress with green growth metrics and indicators; participation and empowerment, such as gender-balanced participation in green growth initiatives, skills and capacities for transitioning to green growth, green social enterprises, and information and communication technologies as catalysts for green growth; fiscal policy and finance, including fiscal reform, inclusive finance and impact investing, and insurance solutions; and sectors, including pro-poor natural resources and land use management, green cities as green growth drivers, investments for green energy access, and inclusive water management and governance.

Event: Women and Land: Localizing the 2030 Agenda [viewed]

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the International Land Coalition (ILC), the Huairou Commission, Landesa and Oxfam will host this event on the sidelines of the 60th Session of the Convention on the Status of Women (CSW 60). The event aims to catalyze action to implement the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including by highlighting the importance of women's land rights in the context of sustainable development, sharing approaches to promote the meaningful participation of women in decision-making, and discussing best practices for innovative financial mechanisms to ensure that resources reach rural women and communities. The event will feature a panel discussion on rural women's roles in localizing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. Speakers, including representatives from rural organizations, policymakers and grassroots leaders, will discuss policy approaches, measures and tools to secure land rights for women and share experiences in mobilizing rural women to contribute to achieving the SDGs, with examples from Guatemala, Honduras, Kenya, and Tanzania.

Event: 33rd Session of the FAO Regional Conference for the Near East (NERC 33) [viewed]

The 33rd session of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) Regional Conference for the Near East (NERC) will meet under the theme ‘Promoting food security, blue growth and empowerment of small-scale farmers and women in North East and North Africa (NENA) region'. The conference will discuss, inter alia: the contribution of livestock to food security in NENA; implementation of the Blue Growth Initiative in the region; and the empowerment of small-scale farmers and women. Conference participants will also be briefed on the regional office's progress in implementing recommendations made at the previous regional conference, and discuss programme and budget matters. The meeting will focus on FAO priority activities in the region, including the decentralization process, as well as achievements regarding the three regional initiatives: ‘Building Resilience for Food Security and Nutrition'; ‘The Regional Initiative on Small-Scale Agriculture for Inclusive Development'; and ‘Water Scarcity Initiative.' The Conference will start with a three-day meeting for Senior Officers designated by their governments, followed by a Ministerial Meeting on 12 and 13 May 2016. FAO regional conferences are held in Africa, Asia and the Pacific, Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Near East and North Africa, and are convened on a biennial basis to discuss priority issues for agriculture and rural development.
