Event: 38th Session of IFAD's Governing Council [viewed]

The 38th session of the Governing Council for the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will focus on the theme 'Rural Transformation: Key to Sustainable Development'. The session will discuss topics including indigenous peoples and sustainable food systems, overcoming challenges to rural transformation through the post-2015 sustainable development goals, innovations in financial inclusion, and empowering women to transform rural areas. It will also include a briefing by Turkey on the G20 Presidency. The session will feature high-level officials as keynote speakers such as John Dramani Mahama, President of Ghana, His Majesty Tupou VI, King of Tonga, and Pier Carlo Padoan, Minister of Economy and Finance, Italy.

SE4ALL, World Bank Provide Solar Water Pumps to Women in India​ [viewed]

SE4ALL29 January 2015: The Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) initiative is helping to provide solar-powered water pumps to assist women working in the desert salt pans of western India, replacing expensive and dirty diesel pumps with clean, inexpensive energy. SE4ALL is implementing the project in partnership with the Self Employed Women's Association (SEWA), World Bank and solar energy company Sun Edison.

Bioversity Showcases Crop Diversification Practices in Southeast Asia [viewed]

CGIARJanuary 2015: A report published by Bioversity International focuses on how Cambodia, Lao PDR and Viet Nam are using crop diversification to bolster resilience to climate change. The publication, titled 'Effective Implementation of Crop Diversification Strategies for Cambodia, Lao PDR and Vietnam: Insights from Past Experiences and Ideas for New Research,' aims to fill gaps in current research and inform pilot initiatives to be tested at the sub-national level and possibly scaled up as national programmes.

ILC: Post-2015 Agenda Must Include Secure and Equitable Land Rights [viewed]

ILCJanuary 2015: The International Land Coalition (ILC) published a technical briefing on ‘Secure and Equitable Land Rights in the Post-2015 Development Agenda,' in advance of the post-2015 intergovernmental negotiations. The paper emphasizes the importance of: secure and equitable land rights for achieving sustainable development for all; a stand-alone target promoting women's land rights in the goal on gender equality and a reference to both women and men in all land-related targets; support for customary and collective rights; and use of the term “secure and equitable land rights to land and natural resources” rather than “access to.”

CCAFS, CTA Demonstrate Value of Climate-Smart Agriculture in Africa [viewed]

CGIAR CCAFS15 January 2015: The Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) and CGIAR Research Program on Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security (CCAFS) released a book highlighting climate-smart agricultural practices across Africa, based on eight case studies. The book intends to increase awareness of, and support for, agricultural approaches that improve livelihoods and enhance food security while contributing to climate change mitigation.

UN Secretary-General's Synthesis Report Proposes 6 Elements for Post-2015 Agenda [viewed]
