Event: CBD Regional Workshop for African Least Developed Countries on the Fifth National Report [viewed]

The purpose of this workshop is to strengthen capacities of African Least Developed Countries (LDCs) for preparing their fifth national reports to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), which are due by 31 March 2014, specifically in assessing the status and trends of biodiversity, reviewing implementation of national biodiversity strategies and action plans, and measuring progress towards the 2020 Aichi targets.

Event: CBD Sustainable Ocean Initiative Capacity-Building Workshop for West Africa [viewed]

Established during the 10th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the Sustainable Ocean Initiative provides a global platform to build partnerships and enhance capacity to achieve the Aichi biodiversity targets related to marine and coastal biodiversity in a holistic manner. This workshop will showcase regional experiences focusing on West Africa, covering ecologically or biologically significant marine areas, and integrated marine and coastal area management towards achieving Targets 6 and 11 in a holistic manner.

Project on World Wide Views on Biodiversity Presents Final Report [viewed]

October 2012: World Wide Views on Biodiversity, a global project aiming to raise awareness of biodiversity values, published its Results Report and presented it at the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD). The project addressed Aichi Target 1 of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020, which states that "By 2020, at the latest, people are aware of the values of biodiversity and the steps they can take to conserve and use it sustainably."

CBD Secretariat Calls for Biodiversity Champions [viewed]

October 2012: During the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), held from 8-19 October 2012, in Hyderabad, India, CBD Executive Secretary Braulio Ferreira de Souza Dias and the Government of India made strong calls to Parties, partners and other stakeholders to become "biodiversity champions" by pledging support to achieve the Aichi biodiversity targets.

Meeting on Animal Genetic Resources Documents Progress on Livestock Diversity [viewed]

FAO24 October 2012: In an effort to stop the loss of livestock genetic diversity, delegates from 80 countries met to present reports and discuss progress on implementing the Global Plan of Action for Animal Genetic Resource. The Plan of Action was developed in 2007, and has been followed by the Intergovernmental Technical Working Group on Animal Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture, which met from 24-26 October 2012, in Rome, Italy.

CBD COP 11 Adopts Interim Target and Roadmap for Resource Mobilization [viewed]

COP 11 President Jayanthi Natarajan, Minister of Environment and Forests, India, gavelled the meeting to a close at 3:02 am.22 October 2012: Held from 8-19 October 2012, in Hyderabad, India, the 11th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 11) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) adopted 33 decisions on a range of strategic, substantive, administrative, financial and budgetary issues. Delegates agreed to set an interim target of doubling biodiversity-related international financial resource flows to developing countries by 2015, and at least maintaining this level until 2020. This is coupled with targets on improving baseline information, as well as a preliminary reporting framework for monitoring resource mobilization.

GEF Develops Strategy for Long-Term Environmental Goals [viewed]
