Event: 42nd Session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS 42) [viewed]

Organized under the theme ‘Making a Difference in Food Security and Nutrition,' the 42nd session of the Committee on World Food Security (CFS 42) will address agenda items, related to: CFS and the sustainable development challenge; policy convergence, including a policy round table on water for food security and nutrition, and the framework for action for food security and nutrition in protracted crises; coordination and linkages between CFS and other food security and nutrition stakeholders at the global, regional and national levels; ongoing workstreams, including the Global Strategic Framework for Food Security and Nutrition, the outcomes of the High-Level Forum on Connecting Smallholders to Markets, the report on the findings of the CFS effectiveness survey, and the multi-year programme of work and priorities for 2016-2017; the role of CFS in advancing nutrition; and organizational issues. Special events will be held on youth for food security and nutrition and resilience building for sustainable food security and nutrition. The session marks the culmination of some areas of work, including the anticipated endorsement of the Framework for Action for Food Security and Nutrition in Protracted Crises, but also launches the beginning of new areas of work like the role CFS will play in nutrition and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

UNEP: TPP Provisions to Help Prevent Illegal Trade in Wildlife [viewed]

UNEP6 October 2015: The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) trade deal includes provisions on combating illegal trade in wildlife under the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). The provisions also require the 12 countries involved to take action to protect any wildlife that has been illegally taken from any country, a step that is expected to help address illegal trade in wildlife and overfishing.

UNCCD COP 12 Draft Consultation Texts Released [viewed]

unccd_cop12October 2015: The Secretariat of the UN Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) has made available the draft negotiation texts for the upcoming twelfth session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 12) to the UNCCD. The documents include related texts to be considered by the two UNCCD subsidiary bodies, the 14th meeting of the Committee for the Review of the Implementation of the Convention (CRIC 14) and the 12th meeting of the UNCCD's Committee on Science and Technology (CST 12).

Event: High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF 2016) [viewed]

The Fourth High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF), convening under the auspices of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), will take place on 11-15 July 2016, followed by a three-day ministerial meeting of the Forum on 18-20 July 2016. The theme of the 2016 session will be 'Ensuring that no one is left behind,' as decided in an ECOSOC plenary session on 14 March 2016.

September 2015 Climate2 October 2015: During the month of September, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the European Investment Bank (EIB), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the World Bank, the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) reported on new funding, and project news and other climate finance-related developments. Multilateral development banks, climate funds, and others released studies, briefs and reports, including on carbon pricing and climate resilience, and reported on events on climate finance readiness and disaster risk financing.

ITPGRFA Governing Body to Discuss Enhancement of MLS on Access and Benefit-Sharing [viewed]

ITPGR5 October 2015: The sixth session of the Governing Body (GB 6) of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) is convening from 5-9 October 2015, to discuss, among other issues, a proposal for a package of measures that would enhance the functioning of its Multilateral System on Access and Benefit-sharing (MLS) for Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (PGRFA), as well as the Global Information System for PGRFA, farmers' rights, and the sustainable use of PGRFA.

Intersessional Working Group Proposes Subscription System for ABS under the ITPGRFA MLS [viewed]

ITPGR2 October 2015: The Ad Hoc Open-ended Working Group to Enhance the Functioning of the Multilateral System (MLS) of Access and Benefit-sharing (ABS) established under the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture (ITPGRFA) made a series of recommendations to the sixth session of the ITPGRFA Governing Body (GB 6). Proposed tasks for further work include elaboration of a subscription system for user-based payments to the MLS and revision of the Standard Material Transfer Agreement (SMTA).
