CITES Releases New Documents for CoP 16 [viewed]

CITES19 November 2012: New documents for consideration at the 16th meeting of the Conference of the Parties (CoP 16) of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) have been made available on CITES' website. The documents pertain to: the revised Strategic Vision; the decision-making mechanism for a process of trade in ivory; and saiga antelope.

Ramsar Reports on Symposium for Conservation of Gonggeomji and Rice Paddies [viewed]

14 November 2012: The Secretariat of the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat (Ramsar Convention) has reported on the 2012 International Symposium for the Conservation of Gonggeomji and Rice Paddies held in September, which aimed to evaluate the management plan for Gonggeomji and its possible designation as a Ramsar Site.

GWF Publishes Paper Discussing Protection of Freshwater Ecosystems in Australia [viewed]

Global Water ForumNovember 2012: The Global Water Forum (GWF), affiliated with the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), released a discussion paper outlining initiatives to protect freshwater ecosystems in Australia, including its signature of the UN Stockholm Declaration, the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitat (Ramsar Convention), the World Charter for Nature and the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

Western Indian Ocean States Commit to Resource Mobilization for WIO-CC [viewed]

28 October 2012: Participants in the second technical workshop of the Western Indian Ocean Coastal Challenge (WIO-CC) adopted a declaration committing to fulfill the WIO-CC, including by addressing the need for a resource mobilization and sustainable finance strategy that includes private sector engagement. Representatives from Comoros, France (Réunion), Kenya, Madagascar, Mauritius, Mozambique, Seychelles, and Tanzania (Zanzibar) attended the workshop, held from 22-26 October 2012, in Port Louis, Mauritius.

Ministerial Conference Calls for Intensified Implementation of Global Tiger Recovery Program [viewed]

23 October 2012: The Second Asian Ministerial Conference on Tiger Conservation brought together ministers and representatives of 13 tiger range countries to review achievements since the 2010 Tiger summit, and to reaffirm their commitment to doubling the tiger population by the next Year of Tiger in 2022. The Conference was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests of Bhutan, in coordination with the World Bank's Global Tiger Initiative (GTI).
