Bioversity International Researches Andean Chili Pepper Diversity [viewed]

Biodiversity International29 September 2015: A scientific study published by researchers of Bioversity International and partners reports the results of a project that screened the genetic diversity and analyzed the market value of chili (capsicum) varieties in Andean communities of Bolivia and Peru. The study showed that differences in capsicum diversity and local context led to distinct outcomes with regard to attributes and their valuation in local markets.

UNGA General Debate Opens with Focus on SDG Implementation, Peace, Equality [viewed]

unga7028 September 2015: The 70th session of the UN General Assembly (UNGA) opened its General Debate, which is convening under the theme ‘The UN at 70: A new commitment to action.' Speakers welcomed the adoption of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with many praising the focus on poverty eradication and inequality. Many speakers also addressed UN reform and peace and security, including discussion of Syria and the refugee crisis.

Nagoya Protocol on ABS Reaches 66 Ratifications [viewed]

CBD28 September 2015: Eleven countries have ratified the Nagoya Protocol on Access to Genetic Resources and the Fair and Equitable Sharing of Benefits Arising from their Utilization (ABS) to the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) since its entry into force on 12 October 2014. The Protocol currently counts 66 ratifications.

United Nations Global Compact26 September 2015: The Private Sector Forum resulted in more than 35 corporate commitments to contribute to the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including through investments in low-carbon infrastructure and solutions to make clean energy affordable and accessible. Also at the Forum, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), the UN Global Compact and the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) launched ‘the SDG compass,' a tool for helping companies to maximize their contributions to the Global Goals.

Equator Prize Announces 2015 Winners [viewed]

First Cycle of Regular Process for Assessing Global Marine Environment Concludes [viewed]

They also adopted recommendations on the 'Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the State of the Marine Environment, including Socioeconomic Aspects,' during the sixth meeting of the Ad Hoc Working Group of the Whole, which convened from 8-11 September, at UN Headquarters in New York, US.
