UNEP Logo26 January 2015: The UN Environment Programme (UNEP) launched a manual on calculating the value of ecosystems in small island developing States (SIDS), with the aim of supporting a transition to a green economy. The manual underscores the importance of accounting for the contribution of ecosystem services to human well-being in order to quantify and value these benefits.

FAO Convenes Global Meeting of Criteria and Indicators Experts [viewed]

Event: Central America and the Caribbean Soil Partnership Workshop (IYS 2015) [viewed]

This is one of a series of Regional Soil Partnership Workshops being convened as part of activities to commemorate the International Year of Soils 2015, under the auspices of the Global Soil Partnership (GSP). One of the objectives of the workshops is to consolidate collaboration among Focal Points to the GSP. Activities during the workshops will include: establishing steering committees where these are not currently available; appointing chairs for working groups' pillars; and finalizing the regional implementation plans. This event is being organized as part of the International Year of Soils 2015.

CIAT Develops CSA Country Profiles in LAC [viewed]

CIATJanuary 2015: The International Center for Tropical Agriculture (CIAT) has developed seven climate-smart agriculture (CSA) country profiles and two sub-national ones, prepared in collaboration with government ministries and agencies, as well as private sector and civil society representatives. Each profile sets a CSA baseline for the following countries in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC): Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Grenada, Mexico and Peru.
