Event: FCPF Participants Assembly and Participants Committee Meeting [viewed]

Organized by the Forest Carbon Partnership Facility (FCPF), the twentieth meeting of the Participants Committee is expected to address the readiness package of Costa Rica and mid-term progress reports with requests for additional funding by Chile, Mozambique and Nepal. The eighth meeting of the Participants Assembly is expected to hear reports and address administrative and legal matters. A joint FCPF/UN-REDD Programme Knowledge Exchange Day is scheduled for 8 November.

GEF Council Discusses Work Program, STAP Report [viewed]

GEF21 October 2015: The 49th meeting of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Council opened in Washington DC, US, to consider, among other things, a Work Program to provide financing for 17 new projects focusing mainly on climate change and sustainable ecosystem management in the Amazon. In anticipation of the forthcoming Paris Climate Change Conference, the Work Program emphasizes climate mitigation, as well as an integrated, multi-country program for the Amazon.

Governments Air Priorities for 2030 Agenda, Sustainable Development [viewed]

unga7020 October 2015: The UN General Assembly's (UNGA) Second Committee (Economic and Financial) held its discussion of sustainable development (agenda item 20) and several sub-items, including on climate change, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and small island developing States (SIDS). UN Assistant Secretary-General, Lenni Montiel, UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA), who introduced several reports of the UN Secretary-General, said sustainable development is not confined to one item on the Committee's agenda; instead, the Committee should consider all issues before it through the lens of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Mexican Women Share Traditional Knowledge on Medicinal Plants through ITTO Project [viewed]

Itto16 October 2015: The International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) has released a catalog of medicinal plants compiled by women in the municipality of Jamapa, Mexico, containing traditional knowledge with regard to the medicinal uses of 44 plants found in the rural areas of the state of Veracruz.

UNEP FI Holds Annual General Meeting, Switzerland Pledges Funds to Natural Capital Declaration [viewed]

UNFCCC19 October 2015: The UNFCCC Secretariat has reported that Antigua and Barbuda, Guinea, Niger, Oman and Uganda have formally submitted their intended nationally determined contributions (INDCs), bringing the total number of Parties that have made their submissions to 154.

IFPRI Releases Annual Reports on Global Hunger and Nutrition [viewed]

IFPRI LogoOctober 2016: The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) has released the 2015 installments of its annual stocktaking reports on the prevalence of hunger and malnutrition around the world. The publications are titled, '2015 Global Hunger Index: Armed Conflict and the Challenge of Hunger;' and 'Global Nutrition Report 2015: Actions and Accountability to Advance Nutrition and Sustainable Development.'

Event: Third Inter-American Meeting of Ministers and High Authorities on Sustainable Development [viewed]

The Meeting will discuss hemispheric trends, challenges and opportunities in sustainable development in areas such as disaster risk management, sustainable management of ecosystems, integrated water resources management, sustainable cities and communities, sustainable energy and energy efficiency, and governance for inclusive and sustainable development. It will also discuss effective implementation of the Inter-American Program for Sustainable Development (PIDS), including linkages to the 2030 sustainable development agenda and a resource mobilization strategy. The Meeting is expected to approve a "Declaration of Tela" approving a Strategic Framework for PIDS.
