CBD Secretariat Launches Testing of Guidance for LMO Risk Assessment

CBD19 June 2013: The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is inviting Parties to the Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to test the draft guidance on risk assessment of living modified organisms (LMOs) as part of a process to improve the guidance before the Conference of the Parties serving as the seventh Meeting of the Parties to the Protocol (COP-MOP 7).

Following the process for testing and improving the guidance established at COP-MOP 6, the CBD Secretariat has made available a concept note and a questionnaire for Parties to structure and focus the testing, using a dedicated interface on the website of the Biosafety Clearing-House (BCH). Parties, other governments and relevant organizations are invited to test the guidance through their risk assessors and other experts and submit their completed questionnaires by 31 December 2013.

The results of the testing will be made available to the COP-MOP 7 to further improve and update the guidance. [CBD Notification][WBHC Web-interface]
