FAO Documents Forest Products Industry Recovery

FAO18 December 2012: New data from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) demonstrates growth in the forest products industry in 2011 from 2010, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region.

The data from the FAO-STAT database documents growth over pre-crisis levels in the areas of wood-based panels and paper, but not in roundwood. Regional differences are important, with Asia-Pacific demonstrating strong growth, while declines were observed in Europe and North America. China has become the second largest producer of sawnwood, and has increased its leading position in wood-based panels, paper and paperboard. The data also describes declines in exports from Russia.

This data was produced from the FAO-STAT database, which contains 1.2 million entries, covering production and trade of 52 products, 21 product groups, and 245 countries and territories. [FAO Press Release]
