FAO Launches Water Scarcity Initiative in Near East and North Africa
3 June 2013: With the aim of supporting its member States in considering cost-effective approaches for food supply and agricultural water management, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the UN (FAO) launched a Water Scarcity Initiative in the Near East and North Africa (NENA) region.
The Initiative will offer a platform for developing and implementing a Regional Collaborative Strategy on sustainable agriculture water management and will support decision-making tools on identifying optimum costs for food supply.
The Initiative was launched at a regional training workshop held in Cairo, Egypt, from 2-4 June 2013. The country focal points for the Initiative began to explore approaches to undertake assessments, water audits and cost curves.
