Migratory Wildlife Network Assesses CMS Influence, NGO Relations

26 July 2012: The Migratory Wildlife Network has published the report of its Civil Society Dialogue, conducted by the Network and the Friends of CMS on the margins of the 10th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species (CMS) (COP 10). A key issue that emerged from the dialogue, according to the Migratory Wildlife Network, is that NGOs' relationship with, and contribution to, CMS and its family of agreements is not well understood.

As a follow-up to that dialogue, the Migratory Wildlife Network announced that it is conducting a review of NGO perspectives on CMS as a mechanism, its influence and implementation, and NGO contributions to this influence and implementation. The final Review will be made available to CMS Parties as a contribution to the CMS Strategic Planning process, and will form the basis of the next stage of the Civil Society Dialogue discussions.
