UNESCO Hosts Expert Meeting on IPBES

14 June 2011: Participants in a meeting on the future of the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) exchanged views on the IPBES process and provided the basis for a workshop on the knowledge generation component of the Platform.

The meeting was organized and facilitated by the International Council for Science (ICSU), and took place on 10 June 2011, in Paris, France. It was hosted by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), which also provided technical support. The meeting convened representatives of scientific organizations, programmes and networks active in the field of biodiversity science, who exchanged views on the IPBES process. The meeting also provided the basis for the possible organization of a "fully-fledged expert workshop," with UNESCO's technical support, to further articulate the knowledge generation function of the Platform. The meeting's outcomes and interviews with participants will be available on UNESCO's website at the end of June 2011.
